Cup-cakes galore. Tonight.

I'm dragging the pesky soul mate along for this again.

I can't wait.

Oscars 2008

Oscars was yesterday, and as usual I didn't catch it. Usually I just wait for the final list of winners and gorgeous red carpet pictures of the best and the worst dressed.

These are my personal picks and pricks.

Best dressed:

This year we see alot of classic Hollywood colours on the carpet - red, black, ivory. Good to mentioned, its a little classier and old school compared to the the Grammy's last week where green and blue were the favourite colours of stars.

Photobucket
Katherine Heigl

This has to be my favorite dress of the night. She always always manages to pull off the best red carpet looks with her glam Hollywood hair and physique. This outfit just screams sex siren of the 1950s. Flushed cheeks, red lips & vintage hair, she paired this with simple diamond earrings and a gold clutch. Classic!

Photobucket
Heidi Klum

This is couture. And what better person to pull it off a couture piece but a model herself. Very regal and yet classic. A look not everyone can pull off - very fine line between Hollywood diva and Ursula from the Little Mermaid. I love the pulled up pouffy hair, gorgeous neckline with a raised collar, almost like a cape, and very sexy mermaid tail.

Photobucket
Cam Diaz

This is my second fav look for the night, a simple classic Dior in dusty pink, accented by jewelries by Bulgari. I love the simple cut and design of the dress, a great example of Dior's creation. Just wished she would do up her hair a bit more. Makes it look a tad bit casual and unkept. But, perfect dress.

Photobucket
Keri Russell

One of the Hollywood's hottest moms around, Keri looks like the perfect picture of elegance and poise Her hair, and skin colour matches the colour of dress very well - a little bit more creme or white, the dress would look like a wedding gown. I love her necklace which is just perfect for her tube neckline

Photobucket
Marion Cotillard

Not only is she a winner (Best Actress for La Vie en Rose), her dress too was one. Very sexy, very ellegant cut, with interesting fish scale details. Her minimal accesories, long necklace and a simple clutch completes her look without making her look like one of the cast members from 'Little Mermaid'

Photobucket
Renee Zellweger

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the silver sequined dress with gorgeous cut and long train, matched with equally bling-up stillettos. I hate her emaciated-bones-portruding body, deer in the headlights eyes (a clear sign of starvation) and dishevelled hair. I can bet you Bridget would look a hundred times better in this dress.

Photobucket Photobucket
Mrs Ben Affleck & Penelope

The two blacks I love for the night. Both sporting similar details - fur/feathers/ruffles - same neckline, long black clutches. I'd say Penelope's is more couture. I love her hair combed back this way.

Oh-God-fire-their-stylist-please!

Anne Hathaway

I love her in Devil Wears Prada and her pass runway looks, but this..hmm.. I love the length of the dress, and the colour of it on her skin. But I don't quite get the off shoulder neckline and floral applique. Would be much chic if she lost the floral applique.

Photobucket
Jennifer Hudson

She came a long long way from American Idol to win the Oscars last year. Too bad for her her dress was ugly last year (remmeber the silver shrunk cape?) and so was this years. Very brave of her to wear white (as we all know it puts on the pounds for average sized people), I love the length, but it's the top half which I don't get. Makes her boobs look weird and her arms a whole lot chunkier

Photobucket
Jessica Alba

Being pregnant doesnt mean you need to dress like a hag. (Think pregnant Nicole Richie & Gwen) This dress really does nothing but show her maternal side, which we all already know she is soon to be. What's with the milk maid hair and feathered chest?

Shanghai Night

I attended a magazine event last night, towing my dearest most favourite pest with me to kill the boredom.

True enough it was a tad bit boring, with insufficient food and the same ol social scene.

What was fun was the free flow of wines and dressing up of course.

The theme was anything vintage or modern cheongsam, so I went in this (mind the bad lighting. Took it in the hotel's bathroom, hence the yellow cleaning sign board):

Butterfly & floral motive cheongsam top
Long puple spaghetti strap top underneath
Black tube worn as mini skirt
Black opaque tights
Chunky black mary janes
Vintage oversized clutch bag (which i stole from mom for this event)

I did my makeup in my office's bathroom before I went.
Used my red lippie, since it was a Shanghai theme, trying to emulate Tang Wei's look in 'Lust, Caution'

Creating waves

I've had my hair permed last Dec, on the last day to be exact. This was the second time I permed my locks, but proved to be one of the longest and traumatic hair experience I had. Ok, that was a little too dramatic, but you see, instead of the normal 3 hours of perm, I had 6, and in a span of 2 days.

+_+

The first time when the stylist permed it, my hair was dead straight when the rollers came out. Much to her suprise and prob the first ever she encounted in her 20 years of hairstyling experience. Anyhoo, I sat in the chair for another 3 hours the next day, and this was what I got.

The perms are alot more looser now, and I have to style it for more curl definition. It's a look I'm trying to get used to as, the last time i did this was almost 6 years ago.

Clash of the sexes

Photobucket

I am loving how she puts two elements - feminine & masculine together to create a chic look. Biker leather jacket over ballerina tutu dress.

Miss Fug

Once in awhile fugs do make the right fashion choices. Like Miss-Fug-Beehive-I-need-a-dentist-but-oh-so-brilliant-singer-award-winning-singer, Amy Winehouse.

Photobucket

Despite the fagulous signature hairstyle, i love the outfit (chic high waisted skirt with bright red top) on her.

Not sure if the boobs are new though.

Hmm..

Casual Friday

I woke up really late today, because it was difficult to fall asleep last night from all the loud fire crackers. Yesterday was the Hokkien's CNY and because I live in a place full of them, it was like a scene out of a WWII movie.

I was late for work, so I grabbed whatever I saw from my closet.

I'm crazy over these tees, so I went out and got 3 of them. Planning to get more when my moolah comes in.

Pixie-lated

If I have delicate features, sharp face and would look hot in a potato sack, I'd cut my hair just like Rihanna and Myolie Wu.

Photobucket Photobucket

I think they look super super hot despite that this hair style doesn't suit all faces. Both of them totally rocked it.

Sexy, fun, chic.

Red Riding Hood

Riding inspired trend was big in the fashion scene of fall 2007/2008. Flat, low heeled riding boots were a bit hit among celebs and fashionistas alike.

Kate Moss in flat boots

I'm planning to get a pair thanking it for its versatility - wear it with skinny jeans, black tights underneath sheath dresses for chic look, or go nude underneath spring's floral dresses for a cheeky young & free look - comfort - because it's flat, you can practically walk in these for hours (tip: wear a thin sock inside, because it gets stuffy especially in our weather here)

Photobucket

I love love how she matches the boots with skinny blue jeans, casual tee and a biker jacket which is very in currently.

I am contemplating to get either a black or a tanned one, similar to the pictures below. Am leaning towards black as it could look a little more versatile. I'll get a tanned one with a slight heel.

A few ideas from celebs:

Hmm.. I think I will pop by after work to get the boots. The guy did offered me a 10% discount.

Singles Awareness Day

This term was coined by two local DJs, both singles for Valentine's Day. I thought it was a perfect alternative name for the world's singles, as we boo the coupled and jester their annoying PDAs.

Since I'm celebrating this day alone for the first time in years, I should put on my man eater outfit and well, just enjoy singlehood.

Glitter sleeveles
Black cigarette pants
Silver metallic heels
Red & silver clutch
Geeky glasses
Cross dangly earrings
"Please return to Link Larkin' chain necklace
Black rose bracelet
Black drop long chain necklace

And who said I can't buy Valentine's day present for myself?

I'm buying lingerie this time.

And I'm wearing it for the world to see.

Around my neck.

Red Corset necklace by 'Made by White'
AUD$44

And what better way to match that little red thing than with sexy eye batting falsies.

Happy S.A.D peeps!

Galo

I visited this place awhile back last year, took some pictures and forgotten to post it. So here it is.
A relatively new place call Gallo, one of the many mushrooming little boutiques that flood Bangsar. On the top floor on the row of shop lots where Starbucks sits, I absolutely was enchanted by the clean, white interiors - white walls, white furnitures, white fitting- accented with chic Parisian look.

This place oozes old charm with a modern twist, boosted with a happy trippy warmness. Their furnitures are mostly vintage, with some imported and refurbished from the owner, Victor's, home. I fell in love with the art - the gorgeous, strong dark black against white whimsical murals that covered most if not the walls in Gallo.
Being a big fan of contrasts my first question to Victor was who the artist behind the painted walls were (which I couldn't remember now), while R potted away happily looking at the displayed treasures. A mix of vintage and one off designs done by their internal designers, the clothes reflect elegance, in a cheekiest way possible. Think elegant cocktail dresses in the chic (and cheeky) of colours, sequins and tafetta.

They carry a few cult designer jeans for the gentlemen and lucky bfs/husbands as well. Accesories and blings are displayed meticulously on white custom made shelves, racks and chandeliers.
Sneaked a peak into their catalogs - very impressively made for a small sized boutique.

Absolutely adore the art direction for the whole shoot.
